Most speakers have emigrated into Western Germany.Satu Mare (Romanian pronunciation: [ satu mare]; Hungarian: Szatm rn meti [s tma rne m ti]; German: Sathmar; Yiddish: (Satmar)) is a city with a population of 94,948 (2011) and the capital of Satu Mare County, Romania. Mentioned in the Gesta Hungarorum as "Castrum Zotmar," the city has a history going back to the Middle Ages. Today, it is an academic, cultural, industrial and business centre in northwestern Romania.
