THURSDAY, October 30.—Morning, 10 to 1.

1. Describe the structure of the Circulating Organs, and the course of the blood in a Mammiferous Animal and in a Fish. Give an outline of the process of development of the heart and great vessels, and point out the correspondence between their transitory stages in the higher animals, and their permanent conditions in creatures lower in the scale.

2. State the views generally entertained respecting the development of the Animal Tissues from Cells, describing the changes through which these bodies appear to pass, and illustrating your answer by an account of the mode of formation and structure of Epithelium and Cartilage.

THURSDAY, October 30.—Afternoon, 3 to 6.

1. What ends are to be attained in the construction of a Respiratory Organ, and in what modes are these actually provided for? Describe the leading differences in the respiratory organs of warm and of cold-blooded animals, of those which are aquatic and those which breathe air; showing the adaptation of structure to function in the different cases, and selecting illustrative examples both from the vertebrated and invertebrated divisions of the animal kingdom.

2. Give an account of the processes of Mastication, Deglutition and Digestion; the answer to include,-1st, an outline of the structure and movements of the different parts concerned in these functions; 2nd, an account of the properties of the fluids poured into the alimentary canal and of their effects upon the ingesta; 3rd, an account of the absorption, nature and course of the chyle.

1. Define the Calyx; and explain the conditions under which it is characterized in the leading groups of Dicotyledones, viz. Thalamiflora, Calyciflora, Corollifloræ, and Monochlamydex.

2. Define a Pomum; and explain the modifications of its structure in Mespilus, Pyrus, and Cydonia.

3. Explain the origin and principal modifications of the Pappus of Compositæ.

4. What are the different modes by which Parasitic plants obtain their nourishment? and distinguish between them and Epiphytes.

5. How is a season so wet and cloudy as the past summer likely to have affected the vegetation of plants usually cultivated in our climate for economical purposes? Explain the probable effects to be expected in the formation of woody matter in such as are trees; in the tubers of such as are rather succulent and perennial; and in the fruit of such as are annual or biennial.

6. Describe the specimens on the table.

1. State generally the peculiarities of style observable in St. Luke's Gospel, first as compared with classical writers, and secondly as compared with the other evangelists; and hence deduce your own conclusion as to the parentage and occupation of the author.

2. Translate literally :

LUKE, Chap. I. v. 14-17 inclusive.

Καὶ ἔσται χαρά σοι καὶ ἀγαλλίασις, καὶ πολλοὶ ἐπὶ τῇ γεννήσει αὐτοῦ χαρήσονται. "Εσται γὰρ μέγας ἐνώπιον τοῦ Κυρίου· καὶ οἶνον καὶ σίκερα οὐ μὴ πίῃ· καὶ πνεύματος ἁγίου πλησθήσεται ἔτι ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτοῦ. Καὶ πολλοὺς τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐπιστρέψει ἐπὶ Κύριον τὸν θεὸν αὐτῶν.
