Excerpt from Some Remarks on Art With Reference to the Studies of the University: In a Letter Addressed to the Rev. Richard Greswell

College Tutors I grant; but in some of their many eon crete shapes, as statues or pictures, who will deny that they might be made conducive to this high Object? They would at all events make their appeal to the heart and understanding immediately through the eye and so become an Object for many unconscious sympathies and indefinite longings, and a help to many purer and better thoughts. But besides all this, as will be soon shewn, they might be made useful in a direct and obvious manner.
