IMPORTANT HISTORICAL ITEM, NEARLY EVERY NUMBER CONTAINING INTERESTING MATTER RELATING TO THE WAR OF 1812. The issue of June 9, 1813, describes the fight between Capt. Lawrence's "Chesapeake" and the British frigate "Shannon,' The Capture of Fort George,' and "The Surrender of "Sackett's Harbour." The Gazette" of June 16 gives the official account of our capture of Fort George. Other important issues are June 19 (England's use of the Indians in the War, and official accounts of the surrender of Sackett's Harbour and the destruction of the British ship "Java" by Bainbridge's Constitution "); June 23 ( Events of the War on our Western frontier "); June 30 (list of killed and wounded on board the U. S. frigate "Chesapeake" in the action with the "Shannon'); July 21 and Sept. 15 (Indian uprisings in the South); etc.

The author-a Graduate of Harvard-was the part owner and editor of several newspapers, including "The Washington Federalist," The Political Focus," The Thistle," and others, some of which had only a very short life. His Life of Eaton "had considerable notoriety, but which is now [1850] rarely to be found in booksellers' shops."
