LIFE INSURANCE DIVIDENDS

OF THE

PURELY MUTUAL SORT

BY THE

CONNECTICUT MUTUAL MEASURE

Each Life Insurance Premium provides for:

3 Elements

THE RESERVE

THE DEATH LOSSES

MANAGEMENT EXPENSES

Surplus to Policy-holders is derived from Three Legitimate Sources.

1st Source Surplus Interest, or the difference between the interest earned and that assumed to be earned on the reserve.

2d Source-Saving in death losses, or the difference between the actual losses and those provided for in the premium.

3d Source Saving in expenses, or the difference between the actual expenses and the expenses provided for in the premium.

The surplus earned and divided (called dividends), depends upon careful, and economical management and NOT ON THE VOLUME OF NEW RISKS secured.

NEW BUSINESS in life insurance does not of itself increase the divi

dends to policy-holders. It means only the assumption of new risks on lives and increased liabilities to be provided for by the premiums charged for same. The Company that pays the largest commissions to agents and salaries to officers out of the premiums they secure, will have the greatest volume of new risks on lives, but the smallest dividends for the policy-holders. The following figures, compiled from official reports, for 12 years past— 1893-1904-show the surplus paid to the policy-holders of the

CONNECTICUT MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY

The..
Measure

The Connecticut Mutual has Paid to its policy-holders in Dividends more for each $100 of premiums received than any other Company has earned including deferred or tontine surplus.

Premiums received from members past years, $59,190,373. Dividends paid members during the same time, $16,236,972, or $27.43 for each $100 premiums received. Dividends regulate the cost of insurance.

I have been for years taking books and papers pertaining to out-door life, and have discontinued them all because they were not true to nature in coloring and drawing. I have hunted and fished all my life. A year ago I saw a copy of BIRDS AND NATURE. After examining it and comparing drawings and coloring with government reports, I can say that yours are absolutely perfect. I would not be without BIRDS AND NATURE if cost $10.co a year.-F. W. Baker, Dentist, Ogden, Utah, Aug. 27, 1904.

Your magazine has certainly had a phenomenal success and it is entirely worthy of its cordial reception.-J. A. Allen, Editor "The Auk." When one considers the low price at which you sell BIRDS the number and excellence of the plates are surprising, and I trust that your efforts to popularize the study of Ornithology may meet with the success it so well deserves.-F. M. Chapman, Editor "Bird-Lore."
