IN preparing the following Treatise for the press, it was not my intention to make it a work adapted solely for the perusal of the members of the medical profession; but rather, by the omission of all technical terms, and by employing popular language as much as pos sible, to induce the public generally to read and study its pages, as, by drawing their attention to the consideration of the diseases to which the feet are liable, could I alone hope to impress on their minds the importance of the subject of which I am treating, and thus in some degree prevent their having recourse to ignorant and impudent empirics.
