For Providential Care.

GOD, whose never-failing providence ordereth all things both in heaven and earth: We humbly beseech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things which be profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If there are any Prayers or Thanksgivings proper for the Day, they may be inserted here, or substituted for one or more of those that follow. Prayers for Children, &c., are to be found in the Second Part.

For the Communion and Following of the Saints.

O ALMIGHTY God, who hast knit together

thine elect in one communion and fellowship, in the mystical body of thy Son Christ our Lord; Grant us grace so to follow thy blessed Saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those unspeakable joys, which thou hast prepared for them that unfeignedly love thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For the Eucharist.

ALMIGHTY God, the Father of our Lord Jesus

Christ, who hast purchased to thyself an universal Church by the most precious Blood of this thy dear Son, and hast established therein holy mysteries, as sure and conspicuous pledges of the exceeding great love of this our Master and only Saviour, and for a continual remembrance of this his meritorious death; keep us, we humbly beseech thee, stedfast in the true fellowship thereof, the Communion of Saints. Fix our eyes and adoration on that open hand which graciously gives us

our daily bread; and grant that the wonderful feast of thy dear Son's Body and Blood may daily sanctify our tastes to all other thy bounties, and that we may daily feed our adoration and love of him, and daily grow in our desires of seeing eternally his glorious face, and so pass through all Sacramental veils to him, who, with thee and the Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth ever one God, world without end. Amen.

THE THANKSGIVINGS.

Let us speak good of the Lord,
And praise his holy name.

Let us give thanks unto our God,
And forget not all his benefits.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord,
And to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High.
To shew forth thy loving-kindness in the morning,
And thy faithfulness every night.

Praised be the Lord daily.
Who holdeth our souls in life.

And suffereth not our feet to slip. Amen.

Concluding Prayer.

GOD, our refuge and strength, who art the Author of all godliness: Be ready, we beseech thee, to hear the devout prayers of thy Church : and grant that those things which we ask faithfully we may obtain effectually; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Benedictory Prayer.

THE Blessing of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

FRIDAY.

THE DAY OF THE PASSION AND SACRIFICE OF OUR SAVIOUR AND REDEEMER JESUS CHRIST.

Morning Prayer.

At the beginning of Morning Prayer, the Master of the Family may read one of the following Sentences, unless there are any proper for the Day.

COME unto me, all that travail and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you.

28.)

(St. Matt. xi.

God so loved the world, that he gave his onlybegotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (St. John iii. 16.)

CHRIST himself went not up to joy, but first

he suffered pain; he entered not into his glory before he was crucified.

Truly our way to eternal joy is to suffer here with Christ; and our door to enter into eternal life is gladly to die with Christ; that we may rise again from death, and dwell with him in everlasting life.

The General Confession may then be said, or else
the following, all kneeling.

MOST mighty God, and merciful Father, who hast compassion upon all men, and hatest nothing that thou hast made; who wouldest not the death of a sinner, but that he should

rather turn from his sin, and be saved; Mercifully forgive us our trespasses; receive and comfort us, who are grieved and wearied with the burden of our sins. Thy property is always to have mercy; to thee only it appertaineth to forgive sins. Spare us therefore, good Lord, spare thy people, whom thou hast redeemed; enter not into judgment with thy servants, who are vile earth and miserable sinners; but so turn thine anger from us, who meekly acknowledge our vileness, and truly repent us of our faults, and so make haste to help us in this world, that we may ever live with thee in the world to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Pardon.

A1 LMIGHTY and everlasting God, who art

always more ready to hear than we to pray, and art wont to give more than either we desire or deserve; Pour down upon us the abundance of thy mercy; forgiving us those things whereof our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask, but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

OUR

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

¶ Then the Lord's Prayer, to be said by all. UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil : For thine is the kingdom, The power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Then may be said,

O thou, who on the sixth day madest man in thine own image:

Make speed to save us.

O thou, who as on this day enduredst thine holy passion:

Make haste to help us.

¶ Then all standing up.

Psalm xcv. 1, 6.

O come, let us sing unto the Lord, let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation. O come let us worship and fall down, and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Then one of the Psalms as in Divine Service. Or if no Psalm be said, the Doxology may follow here.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

I

Then the Apostles' Creed, except when the Nicene or
Athanasian Creed are said.

BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker
of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead, He Psalms appropriate to the Day; Ps. ii. xxii. xl. lv. lxix. lxxxviii.
