Second edition of the quintessential libertine text of the 17th century, La retorica delle puttane (The Whores' Rhetoric), presenting a defense of prostitution in strictly scholastic form. Parodying Cipriano Suarez' De arte rethorica, the standard Jesuit rhetoric textbook, Pallavicino attacks the Society and the entire educational system and social order it supported. In his text, Jesuit rhetoric is subverted into the rhetoric of prostitues, or whores, and the Jesuit oaths of chastity, poverty, and obedience are reflected as luxury, avarice, and eternal dissimulation; see Coci.
