A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION OF HALLECK'S FIRST SEPARATE PUBLICATION. VERY RARE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS UNUSUAL CONDITION, UNCUT AND WITH ORIGINAL WRAPPERS. It was the serial publication of these poetical squibs by "Croaker & Co." (Halleck and J. Rodman Drake) that first gained Halleck literary celebrity. Dr. Mitchell, Edmund Simpson, manager of the theatre, William Cobbett and other well-known personages were the objects of their simple fun and well-aimed satire.

Accompanying the above is a collection of newspaper cuttings, poems signed "Croaker & Co.," and copied from the "Evening Post" and other sources.

You will learn from Mr. Allen that the book has created considerable excitement here and that the compiler has been abused beyond his most sanguine expectations. All of which ought to make the volume sell. . . . I have had some idea of publishing a little book of my California Sketches and Burlesques, including the 'Condensed Novels.'"
