361 [GAY (John)]. Wine. A Poem. Folio, levant morocco, gilt. London: Printed for William Keble, at the Black-Spread-Eagle in Westminster-Hall, 1708. £160

FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST WORK. OF EXCESSIVE RARITY. A copy, described as the first one offered by auction, was sold in 1903. No copy appears to have been offered since that year. "Wine was not included in Gay's Collected Poems of 1720. Its concluding lines already disclose the minute touch of "Trivia," although the atmosphere generally is more suggestive of the style of John Philips.

The copy catalogued has the " Errata" leaf, which is slightly cropped at the fore-edge. It has two small holes in the title-page and one in A2. but otherwise is an EXCELLENT COPY.
