FINE XVTH CENTURY ILLUMINATED FLORENTINE MANUSCRIPT 477. OFFICIUM BEATE MARIE VIRGINIS Secundum consuetudinem romane curie, cum Calendari et aliis officiis. A choice Italian illuminated manuscript on vellum, executed in the latter half of the XVth century by a skilful Florentine scribe and artist, 218 leaves (2 blank), 434 by 34 inches, finely written in Latin in gothic letter, long lines, 14 to a full page, rubrics in red, several of them in Italian, decorated with 2 beautiful large miniature initials and 1 of smaller size, each with a rich border of boldly designed scroll-work, combined with numerous gold studs and flowers, and 14 finely designed ornamental initials with flourishes, the whole richly illuminated in gold and colors. Further decorated with 1 large ornamental initial and numerous capitals in red and blue with delicate ornamental pen work attached (the 3 borders are cut close at top and sides and the first miniature is very slightly rubbed but the state of preservation throughout is excellent and the illuminated work is remarkably fresh, while the margins are ample). Old 17th century Italian limp vellum, remains of tiestrings. Florence: Sæc. XV [1480]

A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE MANUSCRIPT of a class that seldom occurs for sale. Its character and provenance are Florentine, which is further confirmed by the occurrence of St. Zenobius of Florence as a major festival and of St. Reparata of Florence in a somewhat scanty calendar. The 3 miniatures represent 1, the Virgin and Child; 2, a calvary; and 3, a remarkably fine representation of St. Ambrose holding a tower. This manuscript is additionally attractive in that it is perfect throughout.
