This text of the Merchant of Venice was privately printed at the Chiswick Press and presented by Irving to his guests at the supper held at the Lyceum, 14 Feb., 1880, to commemorate the 100th performance of the play. Accompanied by the play-bill for the evening (fore-edge of ornamental border shaved). Clement Scott's copy with his bookplate, and, loosely inserted, the original invitation form, and a copy of the Bill of Fare for the supper, the latter with the guest's name torn off.

A RARE AUTOGRAPH. William Clopton was the then owner of Shakespeare's house in New Place, Stratford-on-Avon. On selling it he removed to Clopton Hall, just outside the town. He is buried in the Church at Stratford-on-Avon, near Shakespeare's grave.
