In finest possible state. Aside from being the best Edition of Milton's Prose, this set is of especial interest for its binding. The style, termed "'Etruscan," was a favorite one with the celebrated bookbinder known as "Edwards of Halifax." A pencil note in vol. 7 states that this set was sold by Edwards for 8 guineas.

Inserted in vol. 7 is an autograph, 19 lines, in the hand of Thomas Ellwood, the Quaker, who became reader to Milton. It was Ellwood who urged Milton to write "Paradise Found."

An unusually interesting Association copy. Mr. Winter presented this to "John Lester Wallack, from his old friend, William Winter, March, 1881, "this presentation inscription being on the title page. The book got into a bookshop and was bought by Mr. Winter's son and presented to his father, who has written a long note (18 lines) signed, in which Mr. Winter mentions that Wallack's true name was John Johnstone Wallack, being named after his maternal grandfather. Mr. Winter has also made some corrections and notes in the volume.

The Author of what is considered one of the finest short stories ever written in the English language [The Diamond Lens] came to this country in 1852. He enlisted in the Civil War as Captain of the Seventh Regt., and was mortally wounded Feb. 26, 1862.

A most interesting and valuable Association volume.

Mr. Winter's signature is on the title-page, and there is inserted a six page letter from Miss Rehan, another of 2 pages from Mr. Daly, and Mr. Winter's Original Manuscript of his fine Elegy on the death of Miss Rehan.

Miss Rehan's letter is one of thanks: "How very good you are to me. All your lovely words have gone deep down into my heart, etc." This is one of the finest examples of the great actress' letters extant.

Mr. Daly's letter relates to the book, he does not want any mention of himself, it is Ada Rehan's book.

Mr. Winter's MS of his lament on the death of the great actress, some 30 lines, with signature, is dated Feb. 8, 1916, just one month after the death of his friend.
