AS LOWELL'S FIRST LITERARY PRODUCTIONS were in connection with "Harvardiana," of which he was Editor, in 1837 and 1838, THIS IS ONE OF HIS EARLIEST PIECES WRITTEN FOR PUBLICATION. It appeared in Graham's Magazine for November, 1841. The MS. contains three corrections in Lowell's hand.

It was sent to Charles J. Peters, Philadelphia, the address being in Lowell's hand.

A REMARKABLY FINE AND EARLY LETTER GIVING HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY. "I was born here in Cambridge in my father's house on the 22nd of February, 1819. I was born with a caul on my head which you know, augurs that I had a special call to something or other I was admitted to the Suffolk bar. I then opened an office and paid the rent of it for about eighteen months, and during that period I had five clients, two of whom feed me, and three I literally fed myself,” etc.
