(1) A sketch in color of two young couples courting in a wood, with dog.

(2) Landscape, showing stream upon which is a boat containing 8 persons, with mansion and trees in distance, and statue in foreground. Written in pencil in right-hand corner by Joseph Grego is "Original Sketch by Thomas Rowlandson, presented to T. C. Venables, Esq.-by J. Grego.'

(3) A figure of a woman, bearing the caption "War"'; in right-hand corner is written: 'Sketch by Rowlandson from Lord Farnham's Collection."

There is also inserted a full-page Mezzotint portrait of Thomas Rowlandson in sepia.

The full-page plates are in two states, colored and plain; the colored set being colored by the author. There is also an Original Drawing by Grego of the Venables crest, showing a dragon standing over a nude infant who is lying in a boat, upon which is written: "Young viset. Venables. Nous Demolishons", with six very amusing lines underneath. Both volumes have the Venables bookplate.

This is the first copy to be offered for sale by auction, and it is unlikely that another copy will occur for some time. The book is delightfully printed on hand-made paper. It would be interesting to have President Harding's appreciation of this work of Mr. Saltus.

The THIRD QUARTO EDITION, reprinted from the Second of 1600. It is excessively rare, even more rare than the second, as only two copies (according to Book-Prices Current) have been sold at auction within the last twenty years. This copy has imprint cut off and replaced in MS., and a few catchwords and signatures shorn, otherwise it is a sound and genuine copy, with good margins, measuring 6 15/16x5 3/16 inches. 620.
