Kemble." Opposite the title, on a fly-leaf, is Kemble's manuscript transcription of the title of the FIRST EDITION, and THROUGHOUT THE VOLUME HE HAS NOTED IN HIS

HAND THE VARIATIONS IN THE TWO EDITIONS.

THIS IS THE THIRD EDITION OF HENRY THE SIXTH, Parts II and III, without Pericles. Of the First Edition but a single copy is known (Bodleian Library). Of the Second Edition very few perfect copies are known. The present copy is the Devonshire-Kemble copy, with manuscript notes of the latter on both titles, with his initials. The first title has been remargined.

Printed at London by Tho. Cotes, for Iohn Waterson, 1634 FIRST EDITION OF THIS PSEUDO-SHAKESPEAREAN PLAY. Opinions differ as to the share which Shakespeare had in this drama. The Play is founded on Chaucer's Knight's Tale. EXCESSIVELY RARE. From the Arbury Library, with label.

This copy measures 59/16 x 3 3/8 inches, and has an old MS. inscription on title-page: "E Libris Ric. Mason."' There is a small ink-stain on verso of B4 and recto of B5, a minute hole in F6, and L3 is slightly torn on inner margin. From the Arbury Library, with label.

FIRST EDITION. A very fine copy of this EXCESSIVELY RARE WORK, with the genuine blank leaf E4.

This volume was one of the principal sources of Shakespeare's Henry VIII. The poem in 7-line stanzas, is written on the model of the "Mirror for Magistrates' and dedicated to Mr. John Howson, the Queen's Chaplain. There are introductory verses by Charles Fitzgeoffrey and Thomas and Edward Michelborne, and a poem in fifteen stanzas of 8 lines addressed to the author by his fellow-collegian John Sprint.
