AN EXTREMELY RARE EDITION. Finely printed by Vincent Valgrisi, a little-known printer of Venice whose work compares very favourably with that of the Aldi.

THE AMERICAN INTEREST IN THIS WORK IS VERY GREAT.

The sixty-four Maps are all good impressions. The first depicts the World according to Ptolemaeus' projection.

The Map of the New World, which follows, is much more true to the present-day conception of the outline of both hemi-spheres. North and South America are shown. The only land named on the East Coast of North America is, "Terra Florida". The text states that "This map contains the whole of the known world." America shows Florida, Peru, Brazil, etc.

An exceptionally fine and tall copy of the genuine First Issue. It measures 123 millimetres, being one millimetre taller than the Montgermont example. Bookplate of T. Dawson Brodie.

A la Haye: chez Gosse, fils, 1774 THE EXTREMELY FINE LAMOIGNON COPY. This splendid copy came from the Library of Chretien Francois II de Lamoignon, President of the Paris Parliament, Keeper of the Seals, and Knight of the Order of St. Esprit. Stamped on the margin of a leaf in each volume is the letter "L" ensigned by the Cap of Office of the Parliamentary President. The books from this Library are remarkable for their choice condition.
