Also a Collection of ALL the Original DESCRIPTIVE PROSPECTUSES of the Plates which were issued, in 3 vols. one in portfolio, the others half bound russia, all uniform, £80. Winterton, 1796-1829 Only one other complete set is in existence, and that I recently sold. Even the Fowler family has only a portion of a set. This magnificent Work was published by subscription, in single prints, issued at long intervals, several at 31s 6d each. Sir Joseph Banks, upon an occasion of addressing the Society of Antiquaries, said, in reference to the representations of Mosaic Pavements in the above work, "Others have shown us what they thought these remains ought to have been, but Fowler has shewn us what they are, and this is what we want." For graphic truthfulness and effect, these representations have never been equalled. Winterton, 1798-1825 $20 FOWLER'S Engravings, a series of 24 plates (2 duplicates) of Stained Glass and Mosaic Pavements, mounted on cardboard, and finely coloured, in 1 vol. atlas folio, with some "Advertisements," half calf, £6. 6s 1798-1825 The ingenious Mr. Fowler was originally a journeyman carpenter, of patient and persevering habits; the difficulties he had to encounter in executing the present work were almost insurmountable. The work, which is scrupulously correct in all its features, is entirely his own; the drawing, the engraving, the preparation of the colours, and even the making of the paper, (for he could get no paper-maker to undertake it) are all the work of his own hands. Not forty copies were ever completed.
