Behold, he comes to free the earth, And introduce celestial mirth.
3 The glorious blaze of light divine, Thro church and state resplendent shine; Dispels the dark and brings the day, And shews to man the heav'nly way.
4 The kingdom of the Lord is come, Let saints rejoice, and earth make room; Fly ope ye gates, receive your King, Let ev'ry soul an off'ring bring.
5 May all embrace the pleasing theme, Our hearts adore Immanu'l's name: We'll sound the kind Redeemer's praise, While angels join in rapt'rous lays.
6 From Zion's court the law goes forth, The nations bow from north to south; From east to west let men record, The vict'ries of their rightful Lord. The message of the latter age, To magnify the sacred page; Gives proof to all, the time's at hand, When truth shall govern ev'ry land.
8 May light and love our hearts inspire, May all inflam'd by sacred fire, Proclaim the sceptre of our God, And spread his glorious fame abroad. 9 The Lord is King, let monarchs yield, Let bloody tyrants quit the field; Our God maintains his righteous throne, And claims the kingdom for his own.
10 The Lord is head of church and state, Of the whole earth he's potentate; No more usurpers claim his seat, But all must bow at Jesu's feet.
11 The man of sin is now reveal'd, And all his forces quit the field; Messiah comes the world to free!: And to confirm true liberty.
12 His reign brings peace to ev'ry land, While Justice with uplifted hand, Proclaims an universal rest, Where ev'ry nation may be blest.
1 LOVE divine forever flows, Triumphs over all our woes; Love divine, unbounded, free, Warms the heart of sinful me. 2 Love divine did us create,
Form'd us to the human state; Love divine redeem'd from hell, When we from that nature fell. 3 Love divine is so intense,
Baffles science, reason, sense; Love divine descends to earth, Comes a son of human birth. 4. Love divine delights to save, From sins, sorrows, and the grave;
Love divine is still the same, And delights each heart to flame.
5 Love divine! O charming sound, Angels bear the echo round; Love divine, that rapt'rous song, May it dwell upon each tongue.
WE travel thro' a barren land,
With dangers thick on ev'ry hand; But Jesus guides us thro' the vale, The christian's hope can never fail.
2 Huge sorrows meet us as we go, And devils aim our overthrow; But vile infernals can't prevail, The christian's hope shall never fail.
3 Sometimes we're tempted to despair, But Jesus makes us then his care; Tho' devils may our souls assail, The christian's hope shall never fail. 4 We trust upon the sacred word, The oath and promise of our Lord; And safely thro' each tempest sail; The christian's hope can never fail. C
WHEN by temptations sharp beset,
And we almost our Lord forget;
Then we look up, our joys prevail, The christian's hope shall never fail.
When death shall throw his poison'd dart, And we to other worlds depart;
Hope leads us through the gloomy vale; The Christian's hope shall never fail.
Then what have we to dread or fear? Jehovah keeps us safely here; Rejoice ye saints, ye shall prevail, The christian's hope shall never fail.
4 To hope we'll join both truth and love,, Thus rise to happier worlds above; We'll fight and conquer, and prevail, Unchanging love shall never fail.
Resurrection, or Easter Hymn.
CORTALS, come! behold your Lord, See this day your Saviour rise ;
He fulfils his sacred word,
Bids you banish all your sighs.
2 Clouds no longer veil the sun, Hell no more the Saviour keeps, God and man in him are one,
Dry your tears and cease to weep.
3 From the grave behold him rise, Jesus lives to die no more, Mounts above the earthly skies, Hell and death beneath his pow'r.
4 Light'nings issue from his face, Heav'nly glory he imparts,
All his raiment beams, with grace, Speaking truth to humble hearts.
5 Rise my soul and bless his name, His great love with rapture tell; All his mighty deeds proclaim, Shout his triumphs over hell.
The Lord the only Creator and Redeemer.
Exalt his name with sweet accord,
And hallelujahs sing.
2 The universe he made,
By his almighty word;
And still remains creation's head,
By all his saints ador❜d.
