That thofe precompos'd fet Forms in which they joined, were fuch as the refpective Congregations were accustomed to, and throughly acquainted with. 3. That their Practice warrants the Impofition of a National precompos'd Liturgy. To which is annex'd, a Difcourfe of the Gift of Prayer, fhewing, that what the Diffenters mean by the Gift of Prayer, viz. a Faculty of Conceiving Prayers extempore, is not promifed in Scripture. That the joint Ufe of Prayers conceiv'd extempore hinders Devotion, and confequently displeases God: whereas the joint Ufe of fuch precompos'd fet Forms, as the Congregation is accuftom'd to, and throughly acquainted with, does moft effe&tually promote Devotion, and confequently is commanded by God. III. That the Lay Diffenters are oblig'd, upon their own Principles, to abhor the Prayers offer'd in their feparate Affemblies, and to join in Communion with the Eftablifh'd Church. The Rights of the Clergy of the Chriftian Church; or a Difcourfe fhewing, that God has given and appropriated to the Clergy, Authority to ordain, baptize, preach, prefide in ChurchPrayer, and confecrate the Lord's Supper.
