PSALM X.

1.

THE Lord my pasture shall prepare, And feed me with a shepherd's care; His presence shall my wants supply, And guard me with a watchful eye; My noon-day walks he shall attend, And all my midnight hours defend.

2.

When in the sultry glebe I faintOr on the thirsty mountain pantTo fertile vales, and dewy meads, My weary, wand'ring steps he leads, Where peaceful rivers, soft and slow, Amid the verdant landscape flow!

PART SECOND.)

3.

Though in the paths of death I tread,
With gloomy horrors overspread,
My steadfast heart shall feel no ill,
For thou, O Lord, art with me still;
Thy friendly hand shall give me aid,
And guide me through the dreadful shade.

4

Though, in a bare and rugged way,
Through devious lonely wilds I stray,
Thy bounty shall my pains beguile→
The barren wilderness shall smile
With sudden greens and herbage crown'd,
And streams shall murmur all around.

PSALM XI.

(PART FIRST.)

1.

JEHOVAH'S throne is fixed above,

And bright through all the courts of love His cherub choirs appears!

Then how shall man ascend so high,

A feeble race condemn'd to die

The heirs of guilt and fears?

2.

Shall tow'ring strength, or eagle flight Essay to win the sacred height

By saint and seraph trod?

That living light, that holier air

The guiltless heart alone can share-
The pure behold their God.

(PART SECOND.)

3.

Yet, think not, that with fruitless pain
One tear shall drop-one sigh in vain
Repentant swell thy breast:

Behold! the great Redeemer come
To bear His exil'd children home
Triumphant to their rest.

4.

Ev'n now, from earth's remotest end, Ten thousand thousand voices blend To bless the saviour's pow'r ; Within thy temple, Lord, we stand With willing heart, a pilgrim band, And wait the promis'd hour.

5.

Then high your golden portals raise,
Ye everlasting gates of praise!-
Ye heav'ns the triumph share:
Messiah comes with all his train,
He comes to claim his purchas'd reign,
And rest for ever there!

PSALM XII.

1.

WHO shall ascend to Sion's hill,

And see Jehovah there?

Who from his sacred shrine shall breathe The sacrifice of pray'r?

2.

He only, who with humbled soul

In virtue's paths has trod;

Who, with clean hands and heart, regards

His neighbour and his God:

3.

On him shall his indulgent Lord

Diffusive bounties shed;

V

From God his Saviour shall descend

All blessings on his head.
