Zu aevi poscentis pauca scheinen nun die Vorbereitungen zu dem opulenten Gelage wenig zu stimmen. Alles, was Horaz bringen Iäfst, ist erster Qualität. Die Lyra der Hetäre ist von Elfenbein, der Wein Falerner, das Wasser Quellwasser, das Horaz so sehr bevorzugt (vgl. Sat. II 6, 2; epp. I 10, 20; epp. I 15, Es ist alles von erster Güte, aber es mufs hinzugefügt werden so wie es die Natur unmittelbar selbst giebt. Statt der coronae sutiles (martial. II 90, 6) und nexae philyra coronae (i 38, 2) die einfache Rose; statt künstlichen Schattens unter einem über gespannten Teppich die Platane. Statt einer geputzten Hetäre eine solche, die auch die einfachste Haartour verträgt, eine schöne Frau also, wie jene Pyrrha, von der es auch heifst: cui flavam religas comam, simplex munditiis I 5, 4.
