Book plates designed and engraved by Paul Revere are seldom offered for sale. Such a beautiful book-plate as the above, if framed, would add to the interest of any library. Slightly foxed, but could be cleaned if desired.

The Pic-nic Papers by various hands, edited by Charles Dickens, Esq., author of "The Pickwick Papers, "Nicholas Nickleby," etc. 2 vols. 12mo, original boards, cloth backs, paper labels. Philadelphia: Lea and Blanchard, 1841 One of the rarest of Dickens' First American editions published the same year as the first English edition. The American publishers state in their Introduction that the third volume is not printed as it is the American copyrighted work "Charcoal Sketches" by Neal. The Pic Nic Papers is interesting as showing the warm heart of Dickens, who could not resist helping a needy family. John Macrone, the publisher of Dickens' first book, left a family destitute. He was in the midst of writing Master Humphrey's Clock," but undertook the management of the work, which netted the widow £300. Dickens' story "The Lamplighter's Story" led the other contributions, all furnished gratuitously. 916. DIETZ (FRED). A clean copy of this scarce work with all the maps (the title page calls for only 6 maps). One of the earliest Western travels by an American author. He describes in this pioneer account of his nearly five years' travels, fights with the Indians, life in the wilderness, narrow escapes, scenery, etc., all from personal observation.
