The Seventh (and last letter) was seized and destroyed by the government, and Shebbeare was fined, pilloried and imprisoned for writing it. The last page is dust stained, otherwise fine copies.

A valuable historical work, dedicated to the widow of Alexander Hamilton. The author lived on Liberty Street and between 1794 until 1834, he interviewed many of the American Prisoners who had been interned in the Old Sugar House. The chapter on the merchants of New York, 1774, is authentic.
