Enclosed in a morocco box shaped like a book. RARE. These drawings indicate that Thackeray intended to illustrate a book on the subject, as he evidently had spent much time in studying periods and the costumes, furniture and architecture that go with them. Among the portraits are Comte de Flanders, 1127; Louis IX with his Court; Louis X in full armor; Duke of Burgundy, 1436, and others. There are sketches of Knights Knights in full armor on charging horses, and drawings of details of interiors, furniture and utensils. With the collection there is a letter from Mrs. Ritchie, in which she states the drawings are undoubtedly the work of her father. [SEE ILLUSTRATION] 918. THACKERAY (WILLIAM M.).
