Most of these poems were written at the Hospitals Broussais, Vincennes and Cichin. They comprise one-third of the volume entitled "Bonheur' which, according to Verlaine's biographer is one of the last two works of his best period.

These pieces comprise more than half of the volume entitled "Paralellment, ," and were mainly written at the Hospitals Broussais and Vincennes. This work is said to be largely autobiographical, and exhibits the genius of Verlaine, which can best be understood and appreciated in the light of the circumstances and conditions amid which it developed and found expression.

A REMARKABLE COLLECTION OF VERLAINE'S UNPUBLISHED WRITINGS, mainly facetious, with typewritten translations of some of the pieces. of the Poems, "Pour une Infirmiere,'' contains an original tinted drawing of a Nurse. Two of the pieces are signed "F. A. Cazals," but are unquestionably in Verlaine's hand. Some of the items are written on Hospital paper; others on various scraps.
