Most of these poems were written at the Hospitals Broussais, Vincennes and Cichin. They comprise one-third of the volume entitled "Bonheur" which, according to Verlaine's biographer is one of the last two works of his best period.

[SEE FRONTISPIECE]

These pieces comprise more than half of the volume entitled "Paralellment," and were mainly written at the Hospitals Broussais and Vincennes. This work is said to be largely autobiographical, and exhibits the genius of Verlaine, which can best be understood and appreciated in the light of the circumstances and conditions amid which it developed and found expression.

Four of the pieces in this volume were written originally for "Paralellement'' but were printed in "Dedicaces." The collection consists of 8 pieces, three of which are signed; 10 pp., 192 lines. Some of the pieces show changes in the printed text.

One of the Poems, "Pour une Infirmiere," contains an original tinted drawing of a Nurse. Two of the pieces are signed "F. A. Cazals," but are unquestionably in Verlaine's hand.
