104. CARMEN SYLVA, Queen of Roumania. Autograph Poem, entitled “The Shadow." Written on a large quarto sheet of vellum, with a border decoration in colors and gold. About 30 lines, signed “Elizabeth, Queen of Roumania, Carmen Sylva, Sinaia, June 29, 1901. As a token of heartfelt gratefulness."
105. CARMEN SYLVA, Queen of Roumania. AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT. 19 pages of oblong quarto size, written in pencil and signed at the end.
The above manuscript is a description of her home for tired people which she had founded by using a small estate left to her by her mother, and which she had supported by using her own pin-money and sums earned in various ways.
A very interesting and rather pathetic account of the difficulties she has experienced in providing funds. In one place she writes: "I could have cried when I saw all those millions go to the Hague when my house of peace and rest would be such a boon to poor suffering humanity,” ete.

The Poems include: “Ombée”; “Le Gardien de Mais''; “Les trois Soeurs''; “Le Tombeau”); “Le Dernier Soir''; etc. Accompanying the manuscript is an original pencil sketch, by Carmen Sylva, of a plan for her glass library; also three impressions of her book stamp.
