THIS VOLUME IS OF THE UTMOST RARITY, BUT THREE COPIES OTHER THAN THE PRESENT ONE BEING KNOWN. It is not to be confounded with the work published the same year with the somewhat similar title "A True Declaration of the Estate of the Colonie in Virginia," of which a number of copies are recorded.

THIS IS THE FIRST TRACT BEARING THE ENDORSEMENT, “Sett forth by the authority of the Gouernors," etc., as in above title, and explains the unsatisfactory condition of the colony by reference to the incompetency of the previous governors, and furnishes perhaps the best historical narrative which was issued by the company during the first period of the plantation.

London: Printed for B. Took and Isaac Cleave, 1685 An extremely rare work by Morgan Godwyn, who was a Minister to Virginia in the time of Sir William Berkeley. Godwyn was one of the earliest defenders of the Negroes and Indians. He is best known by his "Negro & Indians Advocate,' printed in 1680. The above is a fearless attack on the condition of the Slaves and Indians in Virginia and other Plantations. It is dedicated to the King, and the sermon is preceded by a Preface of 12 pages. Clayton-Torrence gives a long notice of Godwyn but does not mention this work. Not in Church. 1021. VOLTAIRE. These voyages to Greenland, to investigate whether there was a passage to East India through the Hudson Straits, contain descriptions of the manners and conditions of the inhabitants, etc.; by J. Monnick, Frobisher and Lindenau.

The margins of the two folding maps are ornamented with ten etchings exhibiting whaling, polar bear hunting, sealing natives at Greenland and Iceland, etc.

Zweite Sinfonie (Dmoll). Richard Wagner, Leipzig, 1831." Small folio, boards, the leaves uncut, 111 pages, in fine condition; Wagner's signature on the title page.

A MUSICAL MANUSCRIPT OF THE HIGHEST IMPORTANCE such as has not appeared in the auction rooms for many years. There is a full orchestral arrangement for wind and string instruments. It was copied by Wagner in Leipzig at the age of 18 years, is in contemporary binding and was presented by Wagner to Prof. J. V. Hamm, of Würzburg, a well-known musician and composer of his day. Haydn's period, 1732-1809, immediately preceded that of Wagner. In 1831 Wagner was studying in Leipzig, and this is one of the Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven Symphonies produced by him for the purpose of study. Ten years after copying this manuscript, Wagner produced his "Tannhäuser.'

One of the most beautiful of the several works on Oriental ceramie art. The full-page plates in color are all inlaid on Japanese vellum paper, and are remarkable examples of accuracy in the reproduction of the original color or shade. Skilled artists were employed for more than seven years in making the drawings for these plates.

The volume of text in 8vo, which sometimes accompanies the work, is not present.
