THE FIRST COLLECTION OF THACKERAY'S WRITINGS WHICH APPEARED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE WATER. The articles were collected by the American publishers from Fraser's Magazine, and issued in book form three years in advance of their publication as a part of "Comic Tales and Sketches''; issued in London, 1841. The work is perfect, though the text commences on page 13, the space having been left for an intended preface or introduction, which never appeared.
