"H. Burton, Rector of St. Matthew's in Friday S., London, was prosecuted for his sermons entitled 'For God and the King,' and sentenced to the pillory, to pay a fine of £5000, and to be imprisoned for life. His sentence was reversed by the House of Commons in 1640. Wood says that his views became moderate when he saw to what extravagant lengths the Parliament went." At p. 28 he objects to the Independents having been called "Grolles, Puffoists, and Wild Geese," by Dr. Bastwick.
