the things they suffer, they may, in due time, be made partakers of thy salvation; through our merciful and faithful High Priest, Jesus Christ, who himself suffered and was tempted, and is able to succour us when we are tempted. Amen.

How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me ?

Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death.

But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.-Ps. xiii.

O GOD, whose counsels are from everlasting, and all whose ways, though inscrutable to us, are righteousness and truth; we adore thine unfathomable wisdom, thy boundless goodness, thy judgments, which are past finding out. Known unto thee are all thy works from the beginning; and thou bringest good out of evil,

and light out of darkness, and makest the wrath of man to praise thee.

We thank thee, that, in the fulness of time, thy Son hath been manifested, to destroy the works of the devil: that the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

Let the beams of thy grace, which bringeth salvation, illuminate all the nations of the world: Let thy truth, O God, make the people free.

Hasten, we pray thee, the coming and kingdom of thy Christ; that the whole creation, which was made subject to vanity, and sigheth and groaneth in pain till now, earnestly expecting the revelation of the sons of God, may also be delivered from the bondage of corruption; and we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, may receive the adoption, even the redemption of our bodies: that the saying which is written may be fulfilled, Death is swallowed up of victory.

O the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

EVENING PRAYER.

EEP us during the darkness of the night,

KEE

O thou Shepherd of Israel, whose eyes are upon the righteous, and with whom the darkness is as light. Save us from all the works and the powers of darkness, and make us children of light and of the day, that we may dwell in the light of thy presence for ever through him who is our light and life, Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Psalm of Praise.

O PRAISE the Lord, all ye nations; praise him, all ye people.

For his merciful kindness is great toward

us :

And the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord. Amen.

After the singing of a Psalm,

THE BENEDICTION.

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

Make you perfect in every good work to do His will; working in you that which is wellpleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.Heb. xiii. 20, 21.

A General Intercession.

(Which may be used instead of any of the foregoing.)

R

EMEMBER, O Lord, we beseech thee, thy whole Church militant here upon earth. We pray thee to send down thy heavenly grace upon all whom thou hast called to serve thee in the ministry of the Word: that, by their labours, the whole body of the faithful may be edified and built up in their holy faith, and may be enriched with all heavenly gifts, waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Merciful God, look down upon thy desolate heritage; unite thy scattered and divided people; heal their divisions; put away all errors and heresies from the midst of them; cleanse thy sanctuary from all defilement of superstition and impiety. Build up thine altar, O God, that thy servants everywhere may
