A remarkably fine example of early carved binding, executed in Italy in the 16th Century. The name of the original owner, whose initials are on the cover, appears on the title-page "Dell Illmo Sig'r Scipion Cavalcabo Gouer di Cremo 1606.''

FIRST EDITION. Beautiful Lyonnese painted binding of the 16th Century. From the collection of Libri, with an Autograph Letter by him laid in. On one title is the stamp "Ex Biblioth. Pub. Colleg. Lugdun.” A similar stamp has been erased from the other title. There are numerous marginal notes of an early date.
