The Treatyse of Fysshynge with an Angle" (included in the above-mentioned volume) “is not only the earliest, but by far the most curious essay upon angling which has ever appeared in the English, or perhaps in any other language. In the most important features, Walton has closely followed this production. In piety and virtue-in the inculcation of morality-in an ardent love for their art, and still more, in that placid and Christian spirit for which the amiable Walton was so conspicuous, the early writer was scarcely inferior to his or her more celebrated successor."-Lowndes.
