* FINE AND BRIGHT SET OF THE FIRST IMPORTANT COMIC PERIODICAL PUBLISHED IN NEW YORK. The contributions, by Mark Twain, Artemus Ward, and others of the foremost humorists of the day, comprise original stories, burlesques, anecdotes, flashes of wit and humor, etc., from all parts of the country, including the South and West.

Extending through the Civil War Period, the latter volumes contain a large number of caricatures of prominent men and events of the time-LINCOLN, and others.

CONTAINS IN SOME VOLS. THE EXTRA COLORED PLATES BUT VERY RARELY SEEN.

With the exception of one other, we have never seen or heard of a set so complete. An extremely difficult periodical to obtain in any number of volumes.

Starting from New York City, with views of houses churches, and the Royal Arms of England, it is finely executed and gives a large number of interesting views, ALL WHICH ARE NAMED. BANY TO LAKE GEORGE. A most interesting feature about this horn is that it contains the views of Shrewsbury (Conn.) and of Halifax (Nova Scotia), and is possibly illustrative of the engraver's travels in these parts. DATED 1758. About 10 inches in length.

Tillinghast," on side, with filler of ram's horn; another Bull's Horn, about 8 inches in length, engraved name of former owner, "Ebenzr. Preble, on side, with filler of ram's horn. (2 pieces.) [ca. early XIXth Century.]

A fine Bull's Horn, natural black and white, the black delicately engraved with running and intertwined lines representing a a snake; the white engraved with Indian, bow and arrow in hand, with tent, dog and trees. 30. AMERICAN POWDER HORNS. A fine Bull's Horn, highly ornamented with Birds, Indian, Snakes, Trees, etc., etc., with initials of former owner, "R. C.," engraved. About 8 inches in length. Dated 1815.

31. AMERICAN POWDER HORNS. A fine Bull's Horn, with finely engraved plan of Fort Newport, with armorial bearings engraved above. The plan lettered and dated 1771. Length about 8 inches. FINE SPECIMEN. VERY RARE.

*Fort Newport was where the City of Rome now stands, and was famous in the French and Indian War.

32. AMERICAN POWDER HORNS. A fine Bull's Horn, highly ornamented with an Indian mermaid, a ship in full sail, snakes, flowers, etc. With initials of former owner, "C. W." and DATED 1757. Length about 13 inches. AN UNUSUALLY CHOICE SPECIMEN, said by late owner to have been in the Wortz family of New Paltz, N. Y., since it was made.
