THROUGH FRANCE AND ITALY

by LAURENCE STERNE

With six full-page engravings on copper by J. E.
LABOUREUR.

Of this masterpiece of English prose it is unnecessary
to write; edition follows edition yet the interest never
wanes. The Golden Cockerel Press have resisted the
temptation to print this volume for seven years, but
with maturity resistance has weakened, and they now
allow themselves this birthday treat.

It is particularly suitable that the engravings for this
journey through the Continent should be by Mons.
Laboureur, himself a Frenchman, the gaiety and ele-
gance of whose work as an illustrator should corres-
pond happily with that of Sterne as a writer. This set
of engravings is equal to Mons. Laboureur's finest
work and should go far towards enhancing his already
high reputation amongst connoisseurs in this country
and America.

The text will be printed from the edition of 1780, on
English hand-made paper, Demy 8vo, from 14-point
Caslon Old Face Type, bound in full buckram, gilt
tops, and limited to 500 copies, of which 250 are for
America. Price 21s.

CONCERNING WORKMANSHIP

Like all previous Golden Cockerel productions, the books announced in this list will be hand-set throughout, thereby permitting the use of the original Caslon Old Face type. It is a well-known fact that the famous 'Kelmscott' and 'Unbleached Arnold' papers selected for the manufacture of these books are as fine as any materials that can be found in England or elsewhere to-day, while the ink used throughout is made to the press's own specifications from the best ingredients obtainable.

In brief, the avowed object of the press is to produce the finest books only, books where text, type and decoration are most in harmony, and representative of the thought and atmosphere of our times and art.
