FITZGERALD (EDWARD). A. L. S., 3 pp. 4to, n. d., n. p., to "My dear old Thackeray" (backed with linen) * . . Though undated, this letter was undoubtedly written early in 1847. After mentioning that he has been sick, he writes: "I read in some paper that you Punches have been caricaturing the Irish distresses-which I hope is not true. What a wretched affair is the Battle of Life. Scarce even the few good touches that generally redeem Dickens. I see your Perkins greatly extolled in Spectator and Athenæum. Dickens' last Dombey has a very fine account of the over-cramming Education System; worth whole volumes of essays on the subject if Big-wigs would believe that a laugher may tell truths. The boy who talks Greek in his sleep seems to me terrible as Macbeth," etc. 173. FITZGERALD (W. J.). The Life of Charles Lever. FIRST EDITION. 2 vols. 8vo, cloth, uncut.
