An Abstract of the Evidence adduced to prove that Sir William Stewart, of Jedworth, the Paternal Ancestor of the present Earl of Galloway, was the second Son of Sir Alexander Stewart, of Darnley; and the Brother of Sir John Stewart, who married one of the Coheiresses of the House of Lennox about 1385, and who fell at the Siege of Orleans A. The right hands of John Stubbs, the author, and Page, the publisher or disperser, were both cut off with a butcher's knife and a mallett, in the market place at Westminster. Singleton, the printer, was pardoned. In Park's edition of Harington's Nuga Antiquæ will be found much curious matter respecting this work, viz. An Order of Council to the Lord Mayor of London (Sir Nicholas Woodroofe) concerning Stubbes Book, in the 21st Year of Q. Elizabeth Reign,' and 'A Petition to Q. Elizabeth by Stubbes, and his Wordes upon the Scaffolde when he lost his Haunde on Tewsdaie 3 Nov. 1579, and his Supplication to the Privie Counsel!, likewise the Wordes of Robert Page.' The original ms. of the Discovery is in the collection of Mr. Douce.
