SUMMER TERMS OF THE SCHOOL UR Summer Terms have certain characteristics as In Vocal Expression the actions of the mind and their effect upon the voice and actions of the body are taught. In Vocal Training the voice is improved in an unusually short time and thinking accentuated in Oral English. The body is trained for personality and grace in expression. Recitation, appreciation, oral composition and extemporaneous speaking, as modes of expression are offered in all the courses. Assistants and teachers are very carefully chosen for the summer as well as in the regular terms, enabling us to meet by individual as well as in class work, personal needs of teachers of speaking, public school teachers, preachers, missionaries, teachers of English, people in society or the home, lecturers, lawyers, public readers and recreation leaders-any person wishing to improve the voice for any purpose. Students have from 80 to 100 hours of work in each term, according to the course taken. Southern Term-Six Weeks In response to the student body of the Southern Term of 1917, the request for a six weeks' term was successfully met between June 29 and August 9 in the summer of 1918. A vote was passed that the six weeks' term be continued indefinitely. We were afraid that students would plan for a four weeks' term and come in at different times, but this was not the case. The majority of the students were ready for class work on the opening day, July 1st. Three-fourths of the students remained for six weeks. |
