The Duke of Rivoli, referring to the woodcuts of this edition, says that their composition is pretty and the design good. A VERY FINE COPY of this early edition of Virgil, with all the woodcuts free from coloring, and BINDING IN THE MOST PERFECT CONDITION.

According to M. Bernard, the above is absolutely one of the rarest Elzevir editions, the three volumes selling for 601 frs. in 1828. EXCEEDINGLY CHOICE COPY from the library of Marigues de Champs-Repus, with his gilt and red armorial bookplate in each volume.

The Virgil, the Imitation of Christ, and the "Patissier François," are the best three and rarest jewels from the Elzevir Press, especially when in old morocco binding, as the above copy.

It is very important, as it gives the original text of Platina's Lives of the Popes, some passages of which had been suppressed in the older editions. From Lord Stuart's library, with bookplate.

The original was the Latin version attributed to Campanus, which was first printed in 1482. VERY SCARCE. The author was Lord Mayor of London, and a very interesting account of this famous volume will be found in the Dictionary of National Biography.

A REMARKABLE OLD-TIME EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED COPY HAVING ABOUT EIGHTEEN HUNDRED EXTRA ILLUSTRATIONS INSERTED, INCLUDING PORTRAITS, VIEWS OF PLACES, MANY OF WHICH NO LONGER EXIST, COSTUME PLATES IN COLORS, MAPS, etc.

Although the text is not quite perfect, there is here presented such an unusual quantity of material that would serve to extra illustrate some more appropriate work, such as WALFORD'S "OLD AND NEW LONDON," or a work of a similar kind.

Among the portraits (mainly of the XVIII and XIXth centu ries, from the Universal Magazine, etc.) are Kings of England, and other persons famous in history.

The views (which are greatly in the majority) ARE SPECIALLY ATTRACTIVE-apart from their depicting places, many of which have been removed in the march of improvement-oWING TO

THE FACT THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF THEM ARE COLORED.

The Costume plates are represented by AN ALMOST COMPLETE SET of the ORIGINAL ISSUES OF THE PLATES FROM THE ORIGINAL EDITION OF "The Itinerant Traders of London," issued circa 1804. The complete set consists of thirty-one plates; this work contains TWENTY-SIX OF THEM. They depict men and women in trades of the lower order, many of which are now obsolete etc. The set is sold not returnable.

390. FIFTEENTH CENTURY MANUSCRIPT. tiones et Preces variæ. MSS. on vellum of the XVth century neatly written in Gothic character in red and black on 60 leaves, with hundreds of initials painted in blue and red, executed in Germany for the use of a Convent of Nuns, and containing several orations, litanies, psalms and hymns, WITH MUSIC NOTED ON FOUR LINES. Small 4to, contemporary binding in pigskin, the upper cover blind-tooled with a central panel of three roses within flowers, surrounded by a border of fleur-de-lis, and the name of "Maria" repeated five times; the lower cover divided in four triangles, having a blind-tooled large fleuron in the centre, and with original clasp of beaten brass and leather. Sæc. XV.

A very fine and perfect specimen of German binding of the period, with the date 1496 inscribed on the inside of the lower cover. BINDINGS BEARING SO OLD A DATE ARE EXTREMELY RARE.
