To make any Work good, it is ne- ceffary that it be either exprefly re- quired by God, in his written Word, or that the Command be implied in fome general Precept, or that we may infer our Obligation to it from the Law of Nature,and right Reafon, 836,b, 16. Not only a good Intention is neceffary, on Mat. 6. 1. but an actual Performance, if we have Ability and Opportunity, Jam.
The doing good Works, very much infifted on in the New-Te- ftament, 798, a, 27. They are the Fruit which every Chriftian muft bring forth, 662, b, 1. We are commanded to be zealous in doing good Works, Tit. 2. 14. and to abound in them, I Cor. 15. 58.
