The Very Rare FIRST EDITION. Differs slightly from the Hoe copy in that the verso of [***4] has Errata, in the Hoe this page is blank. The volume was condemned by the Star Chamber, the author heavily fined and sentenced to lose his ears in the pillory. This is the first English book publicly burned by the common hangman. The passages, reflecting on Queen Henrietta Maria for acting on the stage, which were ordered cancelled before publication, are present in this copy. Many interesting references to early English writers and plays occur, including Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe and others.
