FINE COPY OF THE VERY RARE FIRST EDITION, WITH THE HALF-TITLE. This is the origin of Mr. Beckford's "Thoughts on Hunting," which he has copied into his book without acknowledging the obligation. The edition is supposed to have been bought up as far as possible, prior to Beckford's publication, by Beckford himself, although he states in his own book that he never saw a copy.

THE SCARCE FIRST EDITION. John Scott the engraver offered to engrave a set of silver buttons for Gosden which would rival the Emperor Napoleon's, if Gosden would bear the expense. The medallions in the present volume represent Cooper's drawings of these buttons, which were engraved by Scott, and the volume is a PRESENTATION COPY FROM GOSDEN TO COOPER, with autograph inscription on the fly-leaf.
