This manuscript has been very completely corrected by Collins, with the title and author's name in his hand. Inserted is an A. L. s. signed “W. C." to Sarony, regarding his portrait. An engraved portrait is also bound in.

The fine Clarence S. Bement copy, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED by the insertion of two hundred and twenty portraits, views, autographs, etc., many of which are neatly inlaid.

The portraits include Colman, on India paper; Philip, Earl of Chesterfield; Mrs. Montagu, Garrick and Hogarth, profiles, published for S. Ireland, 1799; Foote, as Fondle wife; Colman and Garrick (probably from the Universal Magazine); Mons. Vestris, Jr. (very scarce); Lamash (in colors); Miss Catley, in character; Mrs. Robinson, as Amanda; and many others of equal note and interest.

The autographs include a 2 page 4to letter from Wm. Pultney, Earl of Bath, 1723, mainly on the Roman Catholic question; R. Cumberland (the actor), a very fine 3 page 4to letter, written from Madrid, July 5th, 1780, to Lord Germain, " I bless God that I have not one act to reproach myself with," etc.; Wm. Godwin, a fine 3 page 4to letter, 1789, regarding his work for the Annual Register.

The views are numerous and include some unusual ones, and some folding plates.

219. COLOGNE CHRONICLE. Die Cronica van der hilliger Stat Coellen. Gothic character. 366 leaves numbered irregularly; 50 lines to the page. Numerous woodcuts colored by a

contemporary hand. Folio, old French red morocco gilt, the ARMS OF PRINCE EUGENE OF SAVOY stamped in gold on the centre of both covers, arms and crowned monogram alternately repeated on the panels of the back, gilt over marbled edges, by Du Seuil.

The above contains an account of the invention of printing, and is the principal source from which springs the assumption that the art originated in Holland, though perfected in Germany. Hain-Copinger, 4989; Proctor, 1464. The title is in duplicate, one of which has a small blank corner torn away and repaired.

A COLLECTION OF GREAT RARITY. Each plate is engraved on copper and colored by hand. The costumes are most exquisitely tinted, and the plates have been arranged alphabetically by a former owner.

THESE WATER COLORS ARE FINELY AND VERY ACCURATELY EXECUTED. Some of them have the signature of the artist M. de Vito, who was a well-known Neapolitan painter of costume.
