A MOST IMPORTANT AS WELL AS INTERESTING COLLECTION OF LETTERS. Hempstead, according to the letters, acted as well for the MISSOURI FUR COMPANY, which dealt with Astor and others. These letters from Hempstead, as acting partner of the Fur Company, begin in 1821 and conclude in 1823, and are filled with inside information regarding the workings of this company, as well as local history.
