Pages 13-24 are occupied by a letter dated August 20, 1781, to Mr. Rivington, and is signed by A Friend to America and to Peace.'

SCARCE. Du Calvet was a French Protestant, and remained in Canada
after the cession of the country to Great Britain in 1783. He was en-
gaged in mercantile business, and was chosen a magistrate for the city
of Montreal under the English Government. After many quarrels with
his colleagues, he was imprisoned for two years and eight months. Upon
his release, he went to England in order to obtain justice from the
governor.

With the long list of subscribers, generally missing. The 42 letters in the
volume give an account of the state of public feeling anterior to the
Revolution, and form a complete chronicle of events between 1769 and
the close of 1777. The author devotes 8 pp. to a description of New York
City as it appeared during its occupancy by the British.
