dapted to the Capacities of the Bulk of the Con gregation; and, if I mistake not, will afford a Degree of Conviction, to the serious and unprejudiced Mind, not easy to be refifted. *

"Who bath Ears to hear, let him hear". JESUS CHRIST, the Son of GoD, and the Saviour of Man, commands, "Search the Scriptures; for in them, fays he, ye think ye have eternal Life; and they are they which teftify of me". And after his Resurrection, "Beginning at Mofes, and all the Prophets, he expounded unto his Difciples in all the Scriptures, the Things concerning himself; "and affured them at the fame Time, "That all Things were to be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Mofes, and in the Prophets, and in the Pfalms concerning him". Taking for granted the Truth of the New Teftament, as we do at prefent, these Testimonies by Jefus Chrift, are a perfect Eulogium

*If any of my Readers with to fee Evidence of a different Kind for the Truth of the Bible, they may be amply fatisfied by reading diligently the following Books: (viz) Baxter's Reasons of the Chriftian Religion: Grotius on the Truth of the Chriftian Religion: Bishop Newton on the Prophefies: Butler's Analogy: Clarke on the Truth and Certainty of the Chriftian Revelation: And Doddridge's three Sermons on the Evidence of the Gospel.

Eulogium upon the Old. They are more than Ten Thousand Witnefles of an inferior Kind.

MOSES, the most antient of Hiftorians, and wifeft of Legiflators, thus enjoins every Individual of the Jewish Nation: "Hear, O Ifrael, the Lord our God is one Lord. And thou fhalt love the Lord thy God with all thy Heart, and with all thy Soul, and with all thy Might. And thefe Words which I command thee this Day fhall be in thine Heart. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy Children, and fhalt talk of them when thou fitteft in thine' Houfe, and when thou walkeft by the Way, and when thou lieft down, and when thou rif-“ eft up. And And thou shalt bind them for a Sign upon thine Hand, and they shall be as Frontlets between thine Eyes. And thou fhalt write them upon the Pofts of thy House, and on thy Gates":

Such were the Injunctions, fuch the Commands, which Mofes, the Man of God, laid upon the Jews. And we need but read their History to fee, That when they obeyed thefe Injunctions, they were happy and profperous :

GOD ALMIGHTY HIMSELF, after the Death of Mofes, in this animating Manner addresses his valiant Succeffor: "Be ftrong and of a good Courage; for unto this People fhalt thou divide for an Inheritance the Land which I fware unto their Fathers to give them. Only be thou ftrong and very couragious, that thou mayeft obferve to do according to all - the Law, which Mofes my Servant commanded thee: Turn not from it to the Right Hand, or to the Left, that thou mayeft profper whitherfoever thou goest. This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy Mouth, but thou fhalt meditate therein Day and Night, that thou mayeft obferve to do according to all that is written therein: For then thou shalt make thy Way profperous, and then thou shalt have good Succefs".

to the Law of GOD, as contained in the Five. Books of Mofes. Joshua was obedient; he did as the Lord commanded him; and he fucceeded, he flourished, he profpered, wherefoever he "There was not a Man able to stand before him all the Days of his Life: As GoD was with Mofes, fo he was with him: He did not fail him, nor forfake him".

KING DAVID also, the greatest of Warriors, the fublimeft of Poets, the most seraphic of Musicians, thus fweetly fings: "The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the Soul: The Teftimony of the Lord is fure, making wife the Simple. The Statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the Heart: The Commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightning the Eyes. The Fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: The Judgments of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be defired are they than Gold, yea, than much fine Gold; Sweeter alfo than Honey, and the Honey-comb. Moreover, by them is thy Servant warned; and in keeping of them there is great Reward",

If you look into the 119 Pfalm, we shall find

it intirely a Collection of Verfes and Sentiments in Praise of the Law, the Statutes, the Precepts, the Teftimonies, the Commandments, the Judgments, and the Ordinances of GOD.

The thirteenth Part is beautiful: "O how I love thy Law! It is my Meditation all the Day. Thou through thy Commandments hast made me wifer than mine Enemies; for they are ever with me. I have more Underftanding than all my Teachers: For thy Testimonies are my Meditation. I understand more than the Antients; because I keep thy Precepts. How sweet are thy Words to my Tafte! Yea, fweeter than Honey to my Mouth. Through thy Precepts I get Understanding: Therefore I hate every false Way".

THE GREAT APOSTLE APOSTLE OF THE GENTILES gives us his Opinion of the Bible in these strong Expreffions: "All Scripture is given by Infpiration of God; and is profitable for Doctrine, for Reproof, for Correction, for Inftruction in Righteoufnefs; that the Man of GOD may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good Works”. And again: "Let the Word of Chrift dwellin you richly, in all Wisdom". St.
