Dublin: Hodges & Smith, 1851 FINE COMPLETE SET of a very rare work. This copy, formerly in the library of William Desmond O'Brien, was used by John O'Mahony when making his translation of Keating's History of Ireland from the original Gaelic, and contains some pencil marks and marginal notes in penci made by him at the time of said translation.

The Four Masters" in their Annals transcribed verbatim the passages of the original and contemporary records. Prof. O'Donovan, the translator of this work, not alone content with giving a rigid and exact translation of the original, has spared no labors to collate and compare the statements of the " Masters with that of other Annalists, his notes there. fore far exceed and supplement the text. He has also made important use of the historical traditions extant among the peasantry.
