[Pellechet No. 2918 (first two parts only). Only one other copy recorded, that in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. This copy has a blank leaf at beginning and leaf of register, which are lacking in the Bibliotheque Nationale copy. The first blank leaf has some writing and stains, but otherwise the volume is almost as clean and fresh as new. Wide margins, leaves measuring 5 by 3 inches. There are four leaves in manuscript in signature L, which appear to be part of the original volume, having the same manuscript foliation continuous with that on the printed leaves. The printed leaves for this section may have been lost in assembling or accidentally left blank. This copy agrees with Pellechet's collation of the first two parts (which are complete in themselves without the third and fourth parts), with the following variations: First signature (unmarked) has eight leaves instead of six, first blank and present, calendar on second to seventh, register on eighth, followed by the Psalter, then the Breviary, thus making the collation-Signatures [*] in eight, AA to EE in twelves, FF in eight, A to O in twelves, P in eight, total 252 11. instead of 250 for this section, as given by Pellechet. There are also some slight variations in the abbreviations used in the text, but the lining-off is the same. There is no printer's colophon at the end of any of the various sections of text, the complete volume ending on leaf 418, according to Pellechet, actually leaf 420, with the words "Per Christum dominum nostrum, R | Amen." The binder has lettered the back, "Compendium Breviarii | 1461 [!] Imp. in Membranis [!]. Pellechet's placing it as printed in Venice about 1480 is probably correct, and it is a beautiful specimen of early Venetian printing, and one of the earliest books printed in octavo in small type. Bookplate of Lord Leigh.] Breviarium Romanum, lit. goth., printed on vell., in red and black, double columns, 38 lines to a page, contains 375 11. only, the calendar begins with March, decorated with historiated initials painted in gold and colours, new purple mor. ex., g.e., Absque nota [Paris? 1490], 8vo.
