"Royal Charles" was Prince Rupert's Flagship. This painting shows the ship after the Battle of Texel, Aug. 11th, 1673. The "Royal Charles" appears in the foreground with an ornate figurehead, and with the mizzen and last mast shot away, still firing at the enemy's fleet. He painted Seaports, Calms at Sea, Fishing vessels, etc., which he represented with great truth and fidelity.
